There are other teams with cap concerns besides the Leafs. Jets need to sign Laine and Connor. |

I don't really think the whole offer sheet will get out of control but if anyone is to step up Matthews would be the only thing that might barely save the coyotes.
The price to pay for that 3-4-5 first round picks whatever doesn't matter if he fills the stadium and they even win actual games.
Just sayin the leafs cant compete with giving him the max, no one can. The value of saving your team doesn't actually matter. |
|
|
|
Why the hell would anyone sign an offer sheet to play with the Coyotes?? You think Matthews is going to leave a contending team in an amazing city with an amazing market to join possible the worst hockey destination in the NHL just because he was raised there? How many star players signed with the Leafs during their terrible years because they were from Toronto......!!!
Gardiner will not be the deciding factor whether the Leafs sign Matthew or Marner - He will be gone if that's what it comes down to. |
|
|
|
First, it's Gardiner. Not Gardner.
Second, he's not going to even be a factor in matching any offer sheet. You keep Matthews, let Gardiner walk, and replace with Liljegren.
Third, Nylander isn't being traded. Dubas is on public record about that. Trading him would make it difficult to convince players, agents, GM's that Dubas can be a man of his word.
Finally, Matthews isn't going to a dying franchise. Whatever extra money he can make can be easily made up in lucrative sponsorships in Toronto.
So nothing to see here... |

Eklund: Offer Sheet to Matthews? Remember, Auston Has Some Say....Marner... - Eklund
LOL, I’ve noticed that every Sunday Ek posts a blog that summarizes the discussion the hockey night in Canada panel has during the intermissions. They talked last night about the Matthews offer sheet and leafs cap situation, lo and behold a few hours later Ek has a blog claiming he’s hearing rumours about the same thing. Looks like Eks source is hockey night in Canada. |

Eklund: Offer Sheet to Matthews? Remember, Auston Has Some Say....Marner... - Eklund
Dear Ek:
It's easy to get cynical this time of year. To get sucked in to the crass commercialism of the holiday season.
So I am so pleased to see that you have the proper perspective: it's not how much money you spend on your family during the holiday season; it's how much time you spend with your family this holiday season.
You've obviously spent no time whatsoever writing this blog. It's just a regurgitation of click-bait crap we have seen for months. I hope you've used that time to reconnect with loved ones.
Happy Sunday, Ek.
God bless us, every one. |

A charity franchise that cannot support itself placing an offer sheet of this calibre with funds supplied by other franchises is simply wrong.
Still no guarantee they fill the stadium, still no guarantee they win, still no guarantee the franchise doesn't continue to lose money. |

Knowing the Maple Farts will match any offer, the Isles should throw 14-15m at him. Payback for the Tavares tampering |

Thinking Liljegren is the savior to the leafs defense is reaching. If it happens great, but I doubt he comes in and makes an immediate impact. Gardiner walking will hurt.
Dubas wouldn’t be the first GM to go on public record to say a player won’t be traded and then ends up trading that said player eventually. Not sure why fans believe everything a professional sports GM says. I always take it with a grain of salt. Anyone is expendable for the right price. That includes the McDavids in the league. |

LOL 😂
I think 3-4 teams should. ARI. NYI. CAR. NYR. maybe a couple other teams. I dont know cap situations at the top of my head or what picks those teams have but I’m throwing out possible teams.
Oh and no I don’t think it’s happening |

Very true. Matthews should let those teams get into a bidding war. And once the Queefs match. Sign Marner to 10m a year. Tavares signing is gonna bite them in the crotch next summer |
